Job Title: Staff Accountant

Summary
The Staff Accountant is responsible for supporting financial operations, maintaining accurate financial records, and contributing to the overall financial health of the organization. This role involves collaborating with key staff to ensure financial compliance and effective cost management.
Essential Responsibilities
- Ensure compliance with company policies, procedures, and accounting standards.
- Monitor and control expenses, identifying areas for cost savings and efficiency improvements.
- Ensure compliance with tax regulations and prepare or assist with the preparation of necessary documentation for tax filings. This may include preparing or assisting with the preparation and filing tax returns.
- Assist at month end and year end closing process by preparing and reviewing journal entries and reconciling accounts. (Could include income statement, account reconciliation, and budget preparation).
- Prepare and analyze financial statements and reports, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and compliance with US GAAP.
- Support in the development and documentation of business processes and accounting policies to enhance and strengthen internal controls.
- Provide guidance on accounting matters to other departments, fostering cross-departmental collaboration.
- Ensure that all transactions are accurately recorded in the general ledger.
- Reconciles bank accounts at least monthly, verifies deposits, and addresses inquiries from banks.
- Provides outside auditors with assistance; gathers necessary account information and documents to perform annual audit.
- As directed, coordinates with software vendor to maintain accounting software system; recommends updates to enhance the accounting software.
- Assist in processing bi-weekly payroll for employees, ensuring accurate calculation of wages, overtime and bonuses.
- Support the administration of employee benefits programs (e.g. health insurance, retirement plans).
- Work with HR to update employee information for benefits enrollment and changes.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Preferred knowledge of the engineering industry.
- Experience in Deltek Vantagepoint is a plus.
- Ability to work independently, self-directed, and collaborate effectively with others.
- Extensive knowledge of general financial accounting and cost accounting.
- Understanding of and ability to adhere to generally accepted accounting principles.
- Highly proficient with accounting software.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work accurately in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or similar software.

Education and Experience Requirements
A bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related discipline is required. A minimum of two (2) years accounting experience. Experience in the AEC (architecture, engineering, construction) industry is strongly preferred but not required. Familiarity with Deltek Vision, Vantagepoint, or equivalent accounting software preferred.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
CPA preferred, but not required.
